James C. Hansel Managing Director, Portfolio Manager Eight Winds Capital Management, LLC James C. Hansel, MSCS, CFA, Managing Director, Portfolio Manager, Eight Winds Capital Management, LLC. Jim is the founder and portfolio manager of Eight Winds, where he manages various investments. Eight Winds is a registered investment advisor. Jim entered the investment business in 1983 by joining Chase Investors Management Corporation (CIMC) in New York. CIMC was later purchased by UBS AG and became UBS Global Asset Management New York. Jim served CIMC and UBS as an information technology practitioner until 1994, when he became a securities analyst in UBS’s Growth Equities group. In 1997, Jim became the founding portfolio manager of UBS's offshore global technology mutual fund, UBS (Lux) Equity Fund - Technology, which grew under his management to over USD $2.5 billion in assets by March 2000. That fund was awarded first place among global technology funds ("Sector TMT Global") in both Germany and Austria by Standard & Poor's Fund Services for its risk-adjusted performance under Mr. Hansel's management for the five year period ending December 31, 2002. From 1989 through 1994, he represented the financial services industry on Intel's Corporate IT Advisory Board. In 2003, Jim founded Eight Winds Capital Management, LLC. Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University and a Master of Science degree from Fairleigh S. Dickinson University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Mr. Hansel lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, with his wife and three children. Jim’s lifelong interest in physics and alternative energy has been encouraged by his family. His father was an inventor and an engineering physicist. His mother majored in mathematics and later studied particle physics. Jim’s wife is an electrical engineer with an interest in energy technology. Before Mr.Hansel entered the investment business, he worked on in military electronics for Teledyne and ITT. His "high-tech" background goes back even farther, to his parents as well. His mother, Helen Hansel, whose parents were Greeks from Asia Minor, majored in mathematics and studied nuclear physics at the graduate level. His father, Paul Hansel, was an engineering physicist with numerous patents in radio navigation. A HABA member for over 20 years, Mr. Hansel is a director of HABA. He has served HABA as president twice. |
