2009-03-10 March 10, 2009: Hope , Prayer and the Economic Crisis: The Really Long Run
featuring Dr. Charles W. Calomiris, of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business

Hope , Prayer and the Economic Crisis:
The Really Long Run

The Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation presents Charles W. Calomiris, the Henry Kaufman Professor of Financial Institutions at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business in a discussion on:

“Hope , Prayer and the Economic Crisis: The Really Long Run”
at New York’s Harvard Club on March 10th at 6 pm.

Dr. Calomiris will bring his singular knowledge of the global financial system and his deep Greek Orthodox spirituality to bear on the challenges we will face in the coming years…and beyond.

The evening promises as clear a picture of where we are and where we might be headed as is possible today, from a man who can also put the challenges lying ahead into spiritual perspective.

Calomiris has been intensely involved in  discussions and research on the causes and cures for the current financial crisis. He has produced numerous publications on the causes and responses to the Great Depression and the nature of the current global economy.  His recent presentations include: “The Subprime Turmoil: What's Old, What's New, and What's Next.”

A heavy hitter in the lineup of people focused on the financial crisis, in his limited free time, Calomiris performs modern Greek music and is a master of Byzantine Chant.  He will discuss the personal importance of his religion and how an active prayer life is valuable for coping with the stress and anxiety generated by the current crisis and for focusing on actions that will protect one’s self, family and community, helping us all to move forward into a brighter future.

The Harvard Club is located at 35 West 44th St—next door to Kellari Taverna.  The presentation will begin at 6 pm sharp.  Hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Admission $30 in advance.  $40 door.

Due to limited seating, the hosts recommend reserving seats in advance by going to www.evangelismos.org or by sending checks for  $30 per person to:
