The Cyprus Children's Fund is a non-profit organization established in 1974 immediately after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus to aid displaced families with children. Over the years the program has developed into an organization seeking to assist indigent children in Cyprus. The program has on average 840 children from refugee and non-refugee families. All monies go directly to the children and not community projects. The Cyprus Government funds the operating costs of the Fund, making donations 100% for the benefit of the children. Forty-five percent of the children who are currently in the program are from refugee families. Almost half of the abandoned children and more than half of the orphaned children are from such families. Through the Fund a child gets financial assistance and benefits from the relationship between the foster parent and the child. A relationship that provides warmth, care, affection and guidance, so necessary in a child's life.
