Mr. Dennis Malamatinas, Chief Executive Officer of Burger King Corporation, will be the guest speaker at a cocktail reception hosted by the Hellenic American Bankers Association (HABA) at the The Racquet & Tennis Club. Mr. Malamatinas will talk about "The Challenges of Global Marketing."
Burger King Corporation system consists of 11,000 restaurants in 56 countries, with $11 billion in sales and 300,000 employees. Over the past 2 years Burger King has continued to outperform the competition and is gaining market share in all key markets. An aggressive international expansion strategy is being implemented with very strong results. Today the international division contributes 16% of Burger King Corporation’s operating profit compared to a loss in 1996.
Dennis Malamatinas was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Burger King Corporation in March 1997. He also serves as a Director of Diageo plc, formed by the merger of Grand Metropolitan plc and Guinness plc.
Prior to joining Burger King Corporation, Mr. Malamatinas was at Grand Metropolitan as President, IDV Asia Pacific, and a member of the IDV Main Board. Reporting to the Chairman & CEO, Mr. Malamatinas was responsible for the Asia Pacific, which represented the biggest growth potential for the company. He was promoted to the President position and the Main Board after a successful turnaround of the company’s biggest brand, Smirnoff, and the successful development of the IDV business in the Former Soviet Union and Poland. He began his tenure at Grand Metropolitan in 1989 as President & CEO, Metaxa Distillers, responsible for the Metaxa Group worldwide and the GrandMet Drinks business in Greece where Metaxa was the leading spirits company. In October 1991, Mr. Malamatinas was appointed President & CEO, The Pierre Smirnoff Company & IDV Managing Director for the Former Soviet Union. Smirnoff is the world’s largest selling vodka, second largest spirit brand and one of GrandMet’s most important brands. As President, Mr. Malamatinas developed and implemented a global strategy resulting in very strong results that culminated in his appointment in June of 1995 as President, IDV Asia Pacific and a Member of the IDV Main Board.
From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Malamatinas was employed at PepsiCo. While there he served as Area Vice President, Mid-East Region (1986-1987), the most important international profit center for Pepsi Cola, headquartered in Nicosia, Cyprus, and as President & CEO, PepsiCo Italia, responsible for the Pepsi Cola business in Italy, one of the world’s most important soft drink markets.
Before joining PepsiCo, Mr. Malamatinas spent 7 years (1979-1986) at The Proctor & Gamble Company. While at Proctor & Gamble, he held various Brand/General management positions in Europe, Switzerland and the UK, working on such key brands as Pampers, Crest, Tide, Camay and Head & Shoulders.
In 1979, he received an MBA Degree in International Finance and Economics from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, and his BS Degree in Economics in 1977 from Roosevelt University, where he graduated with honors, making the dean’s list all four years and attending on a full academic scholarship.
Mr. Malamatinas was born April 4, 1955. He speaks English, Greek, Italian, French, some Spanish and Dutch. He is married with two children, ages 14 and 17. Mr. Malamatinas's hobbies include skiing, tennis, basketball and martial arts (black belt).

Its membership exceeds 250 professionals from over 60 major financialinstitutions in the metropolitan New York City area.
