HABA to Honor Dr. Maria Vassalou as 2016's Executive of the Year

HABA, the Hellenic-American Association for Professionals in Finance, will honor Dr. Maria Vassalou, Partner and Portfolio Manager at Perella Weinberg Partners, as its 2016 Executive of the Year on Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 at the Union League Club of New York.  A cocktail reception will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by a seated dinner during which Dr. Vassalou will be honored. Dignitaries will be in attendance as guests of honor.

Dr. Vassalou is renowned for her research on the interrelation of macro economics and financial markets. Many of the principles of her research are employed in the global macro asset management strategies that she has developed during her career as a portfolio manager at Soros Fund Management, SAC Capital, MIO Partners, and presently Perella Weinberg Partners. HABA is privileged to honor such an accomplished professional.

Prior to her career in asset management, Dr. Vassalou was an Associate Professor of Finance at Columbia Business School which she joined in 1995. Dr. Vassalou is a Past President of the European Finance Association and was the Chair of the 2008 European Finance Association Meetings. A Research Affiliate of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London for many years, Dr. Vassalou is a past member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Vienna-based Guttmann Center of Competence in Portfolio Management. A frequent speaker to both academic and practitioner-oriented seminars and conferences and a recipient of several awards, Dr. Vassalou has published in leading academic journals and she is a member of the Editorial Board of the Financial Analysts Journal. While she was on the faculty of Columbia University, she also served as a consultant to many premier hedge funds and asset management institutions in the U.S. and Europe.

Dr. Vassalou received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Athens and she holds a Ph.D. in Financial Economics from London Business School.

The Hellenic American Bankers Association (HABA) will be celebrating its 34th anniversary.
